Is Smoking Bad For You? - The Truth

Should you worry about the damage smoking does to your health?

But could it be blown out of proportion? After all many things are. The media continuously exaggerates bad news.

Swine flu's killed some people. We may as well just go into a panic right now.
Did you know that ordinary flu kills thousands every single year and the symptoms are currently worse than swine flu.

Have they done the same with the effects of smoking? Making them out to be far worse than they really are.

Lets look at the facts and figures.
300 people die every day (not year) as a direct result of smoking and that's just in the UK! Just think how high the number would be countries like the US.

Have you heard of people dying from thing such as Drug addictions, AIDS, Traffic accidents and breast cancer?

Well the number of people under the age of 70 who die from them (combined) is lower than those who die from smoking!
Is smoking bad for you? It's starting to look that way isn't it?
Lets now see exactly what damage smoking can do to you.

Cancer:
The most common type of cancer for smokers, is lung cancer. A staggering 90 percent of all lung cancer cases are caused from smoking!
The risk of throat and mouth cancer also significantly increases for smokers.

Vascular disease:
Everyone talks about nicotine and how it's the addictive part of the cigarette. Some even say that it's physically addictive. Actually the physically addictive properties of cigarettes are minimal, it's the psychological properties which cause the problems. The physical danger of nicotine is how it can cause fatty deposits to build up in the arteries causing them to harden and block up!

The three most common types of vascular disease are:
Cardiovascular disease - blood flow to the heart gets restricted, heart attack may result! (The most common cause of death in smokers)

Peripheral vascular disease - blood flow to the legs gets restricted, symptoms may range from mild cramping pains to gangrene in the toes and feet!
Cerebrovascular disease - blood flow to the brain gets restricted, stroke may result!

Other potential effects of smoking are:
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) - long term lung damage
Fertility problems - both genders can be affected
Impotence - caused by restricted blood flow
Higher risk of cataracts
Mouth Ulcers
Paler Skin
The list goes on!
Is smoking bad for you? Absolutely yes!
Many dangers get blown out of proportion but smoking is NOT one of them. The problems are real.

Yes some smokers live to the age of 100 but they're few and far between.
Every puff of a cigarette is damage to your health.
If you're a smoker you've the choice of facing the consequences or giving up.
