Most Important benefits of Learning a New Language

Why should you learn a foreign language? People learn a foreign language for different purposes. Today, due to globalization and increase in travel, being fluent in another language is very beneficial.

1. MEETING PEOPLE If you learn a new language you get to meet new people, make new acquaintances or build new business prospects.

2. TRAVELING TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES If you speak a foreign language well, you would definitely feel more at ease and comfortable while traveling to countries where that language is spoken, and be able to communicate with the natives.

3. MOVING TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES You might have to move to a foreign country for a particular reason such as marrying into a family from another country which speaks a foreign language.

4. JOB OPPORTUNITIES If you have been thinking of getting a better job outside of your country and do not speak a foreign language, you would definitely be restricted to English speaking countries. Learning a foreign language provides more employment opportunities as being multilingual makes you more marketable. You may also be able to move to a branch of your company in another country. This is especially attractive if a better paying job becomes available there.

If you want a traveling job, such as a traveling nurse, it is wiser if you can speak the foreign language to communicate with your patients.

5. EMERGENCY SITUATIONS You may need to get better medical attention in a country where English is not spoken.

6. CULTURAL BENEFITS Having a second language helps someone learn more about new cultures. For example, the impact of Spanish music and culture has increased drastically over the past few years. That alone is a good reason to go out and learn Spanish.

7. MENTAL DEVELOPMENT Persons who speak more than one language do better in other academic fields.

Being multilingual is an asset and therefore makes you more "marketable" as an employee. This means you are more eligible for promotion and opportunities to go on overseas assignments, especially to places where another language is spoken locally. If you work in the tourism and hospitality industry or any job where you interact with people from all over the world, you need to learn a foreign language. If you have a traveling job, you need to learn a foreign language.

Many large companies have establishments in various countries of different languages. If you can speak more than language it means that you can get more consideration for opportunities to move to a higher paying job within your company, in another country if an attractive post becomes available. Don't limit yourself.

Whatever the reasons to learn a foreign language the bottom line remains that knowing a foreign language is definitely an advantage be it a better job, a better salary, and open doors to new opportunities.
